  1. Hi all!

I'm pretty new to crossfit and have previously mainly played soccer when it comes to working out. This has left me weak with good conditioning. Currently, I'm following the open programming, but I find that I need to get a lot stronger before I'll be able to do the metcons as Rx'd. Since the Open programming only incorporates strength workouts twice a week, would I be better of mixing and matching the regionals and open programming to do more strength work? Or perhaps follow the Get ha-uge programming from last year? I will not be ready for the open next year anyway, so there's no real reason to "peak" for any specific time.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

    1. Patience is key here. Everyone goes at a different speed, but for the most part it takes a great deal of time developing all the essentials in CrossFit. If your not used to CrossFit or a lot of strength then consider doing the open programming. This will boost your general fitness and you will get stronger just by doing the strength programmed because you are simply doing it. You don't want to take on too much load if not ready and risk bad results...Welcome!

    2. Thanks for your input guys, really appreciate it. Just to clarify - I'm not completely new to strength training. I have been following a program similar to Starting strength for 4-5 months, but realized early on that Crossfit was what I really wanted to do. I will continue to follow the Open programming.

My problem is that I just get too obsessed with trying to optimize everything and forget that what I'm currently doing feels great and is a lot of fun. It's a great community going on here on this blog and your results are really inspiring for a newcomer - hopefully I'll get to your level soon enough. Thanks again!

Trust me when I tell you that you will be ready for the open next year. Read the programming philosophy and that should help you to pick the right programming. Remember that CrossFit is scalable to all levels, and the important thing is to get the appropriate stimulus. If that means scaling weights/reps, substitute modifications for skills you aren't quite able to do yet, then so be it. Hope this helps a little. Welcome to the best programming you'll ever do.

I've been doing the "Open" programming for about 2 months and I have seen increases in all areas.

P.S. For the website engineer. It would be great to add a "SEARCH" bar somewhere. I only post here so I have no record otherwise. Damn paper trails....I'm not about that life!!
