Wednesday 8.7.13

Recovery Day.
Choose one of the following:
Yoga
60-90 mins of Stretching
60 minutes of mobility

A Note on Posting:
Two weeks ago I posted a week's worth of programming early since I knew I would be busy at the Games.  There was a very positive response to the early posts, which got me thinking...  Does it make sense for competitors to know the programming days in advance?
There are obviously two answers to this and one could easily argue both sides.  Daily posts allow the athletes to stay focused on the immediate tasks, not think ahead (and possibly save energy and game things they shouldn't), prepares better for the unknown and reduces cherry-picking.  Weekly posts on the other hand, allow athletes to work in extra skills, mobility, and schedule their week's better.  It also may prepare the athletes better for competition.  While preparing for the unknown is huge part of our training, most CrossFit events have a number of events that are known days in advance.  Over several days you have throw down with everything you have knowing that you still have a number of known events to come.
So my conclusion is to work with both systems.  There will be times that I post several days or a week in advance and other times that I will post day to day.

  1. Constantly varied! Thanks Ben. I hate knowing in advance when there is a WOD that I have to do that is going to kick my ass, but I like knowing whether or not doing a little skill work today is a good idea given the next day's WOD

    5. I live in St. Louis and would love to come up and work out with everyone in person. But I am thoroughly enjoying following the programming.

  3. I workout in two different gyms with two different sets of pros and cons - this helps a TON knowing if I should swap days depending on where/when I'm doing work.

  4. love it. With my schedule i have to follow a 5 on 2 off workout week. not ideal. some weeks can get a little hairy when i replace the rest day with another a wod from the previous weekend. And truthfully with everything going on in life i can barely remember what i'm doing that day. usually end up checking this 2-3 times before i actually do the work out ha.

  9. Great thoughts Coach B!!! I did not look ahead from day to day last week. When I have been able to see the WOD the night before, I do not sleep as well...thoughts of how I will go about the WOD just keep rolling thru the brain...

I will try the different approach this week & look ahead...should not make a difference...High School Football starts here in WI (I coach) and I am sure I will be tired enough to sleep!

    Thanks for the GREAT programming!!!
& Congrats to all the CFNE peeps @ the games!!!
Testament to your mad programming skills and genuine concern for your athletes!

  10. On a side note, did the CompWOD leave Beyone The Whiteboard? I can't seem to find your workouts anymore.

  11. Living in New Zealand the daily wods always come way too late to complete on the day. So from my point of view advance postings are great.

  12. im in Australia and we complete WODs that are 3 days behind. it allows me to post 3 days at a time. my athletes are happy with that, so a week ahead or the daily post doesnt really change our way. keep up your excellent work

  17. Thank you for invite Ben.

There's a few of us passing through in the near future. Coming down from New Brunswick Canada. Ill contact you to see when a good time would be to stop by for a proper CompWOD a$$ kicking. The regional programming has already been doing a great job of that
